This Surah was revealed in response to the Jews — may Allah disgrace them — for the outrageous and blasphemous things they said about Maryam (Mary) and her son ‘Isa (Jesus), peace be upon them. It served to clarify the purity and righteousness of the family of ‘Imran, and to affirm their elevated status in goodness and virtue.
The Surah contains three main objectives:
Affirming the Oneness of Allah (Tawḥīd).
Declaring that Allah is far above having a son (Glorifying Him from such claims).
Affirming the Resurrection and the Day of Judgment.
